    Amigurumi

I posted the other day about the crochet project I had just finished up. But I’m not the only crocheter in the house now. Boy #2 has gotten into amigurumi, which is essentially 3-D crochet. He has been making lots of stuffed critters over the past few weeks. Like this highland cow… …and this turtle… …and this little gnome! So far he has gifted his creations to his friends, but his latest project he’ll be keeping for himself. Any guesses on what this might end up being? I’ll post pics of the finished product when it’s all done!

    Off the Map

Off the Map by Trish DollerBeck Sisters series book 3Out now from St. Martin’s Press I fell in love with the Beck Sisters from the moment I met Anna in Float Plan. Now we follow honorary Beck sister Carla as she traverses the beautiful Irish countryside on her way to Anna’s wedding. Along the way she is escorted by brother of the groom, Eamon Sullivan. Do the two of them fall for each other along the way? Of course they do! But the insta-love/insta-lust seemed a little too…insta I guess? It didn’t grab me at all. And while this book does deal with some serious issues, like Carla’s father’s struggle…

My dearest Virginia, How are you to-night? It is now about 11:30P.M. Mon. evening. I just came home from work and was thinking about you, so I decided to write a letter. What do you think of the snow storm? Did you get home allright? I hope so. I certainly had a good time Sat. night, you looked awfully good to me. I hope you had a good time. I could have held you in my arms all night, but Leon’s girl had to get up in the morning, so there was nothing we could do about it, was there. I got home about 2:45, and didn’t get up until…

    Something Wild & Wonderful

Something Wild & Wonderful by Anita KellyPublication date: 7 March 2023 from Forever I usually wait a day or two after reading a book to write a review of it, to give my brain time to work out my thoughts, but I literally finished reading Something Wild & Wonderful like three minutes ago and if I don’t get this overwhelming love out of my head right now I might literally explode. This book was so beautiful, y’all. Like, it wrapped me up in this cloud of happiness, even when there were tears streaming down my face (tissue count: 5). Ben and Alexei are such beautiful characters, and I identified with…

    Death to DST

I hate Daylight Saving Time. It needs to die. It’s ridiculous that we still have to suffer through these time changes twice a year. It takes me days, and sometimes weeks, to recover from each change. Why can’t we just pick a time and stick with it???

    Happy Birthday Mom!

What has been keeping me so busy that I neglected my blogging duties? This crochet project! The past few weeks I’ve been working on this wrap for my mother for her birthday (which was yesterday). The pattern is Cassia and the yarn is Dewy DK in Oxblood, both from Expression Fiber Arts. Watching Chandi’s videos on her YouTube channel has taught me everything I know about crochet. I can’t always afford her beautiful hand-dyed yarns, but everyone once in a while I treat myself to some, and when I saw this yarn I absolutely had to have it for this project. My next crafty challenge is to try to learn…

Dear Virginia, It seems ages since I last heard from you. Your Valentine was very sweet, and I enjoyed it very much. I wish I could come up to see you. I will some of these week ends, wait and see. How is everything in Niagara? We had a strike down here at the chocolate works. It lasted 12 days. About all I have done for the last two weeks is stand on the pickett line. I am glad it is over. We won the strike, got our contract and our raise. I go back to work this afternoon in about a half hour. How is school going? I wish…

    February Reading Wrap-Up

February was another audio-heavy month for me (12/16). I’ve been devouring the Audible Originals. The three Cara Bastone books were so good! I especially loved Seat Mate. It reminded me a bit of my favorite movies – Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise and Before Sunset – due to its focus on conversation and the interaction of two people who find themselves thrown together for a set amount of time with no guarantee that there will be a future for them beyond that time. I’ve also added updates on a couple of the reading challenges I’m doing this year. Note: Do I realize that one of my February graphics says “January”? Yes.…

    For Her Consideration

For Her Consideration by Amy SpaldingOut now from Kensington Books This is a sweet and thoughtful sapphic romance set against the backdrop of the Hollywood “biz.” What I liked:• Fat girl rep (yes, I use that word to destigmatize it)• Well-developed characters• An ex you can really pour your hatred into• Colossal chemistry between Nina and Ari!• A peek behind the scenes of Hollywood. Nina has a job I never would have known actually existed.• First person narration• Found family – one of my favorite things• Lorna! What I didn’t:• Nina splits with her ex and then drops off the face of the earth for three years but her friends,…

Dear Virginia, I received your letter to-day, and was certainly glad to hear from you. I sure miss you a lot. There isn’t much change around here, everything seems to be the same. I haven’t been out much, except last Saturday night I went to the Pontiac for the Presidents ball. Oh yes, I almost forgot to tell you, Sun. night Becky, and Romney Ingalls wanted me to go to Mexico with them so I went. Romney took Shirley, Beck took Frances, there wasn’t anybody else in town, so I had to take Lois. Hope you don’t mind. She told me she got a letter from Dan. She seemed all…

Dear Virginia, I am sorry it has been so long since I have written to you, but my brother brought your letter over to me just a short time ago, so I had to wait until I could get your address. Leon said he received a letter from you. He mentioned you were homesick for Mexico. I am living in Fulton now. My address is 604 Fay St., Fulton, N.Y. It is three houses from the P.C.K. Choc. Co. where I work. I have decided to stay here instead of going to Buffalo. I have a good rating here and I hate to leave. Please excuse the pencil, as I…
