Welcome Summer

It was a gorgeous weekend in this neck of the woods, a perfect kickoff to our summer, and we took full advantage of the beauty of some of our local state parks. Saturday evening we made a trip to Selkirk Shores State Park. Vance spent a lot of time camping here with his family as a kid, but this was probably only the second time I’d been there. The pier is pretty cool, as long as you are okay with no barriers to falling in the water if you slip on the wet parts. 🤣 There was some good wave action, enough to find yourself mesmerized by them crashing on the shore with big splashes.

On Sunday we headed to Chimney Bluffs State Park, a request from the Dad of the family on Father’s Day. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve visited, and they’ve added a bunch of boardwalk areas through some of the previously mucky parts. The hike up to the bluffs was tiring for this old, out of shape lady with the bad knee, but I made it through with the help of my handy trekking poles. The view of the bluffs never gets old, no matter how many times we visit. I know I’m taking the exact same pictures every time I’m there, but it’s only because it’s such a stunning view, especially on a picture-perfect day like we had. And of course there was the obligatory selfie with Lake Ontario in the background, and a trip for ice cream on the way home. The Dugout in Wolcott gets high marks from me because apparently peach Dole Whip is a thing that exists and it was just as delightful as I anticipated.
